SpringFab

: Rapid Fabrication Using Helical Wire Bending

Myung Jin Kim, Neung Ryu, YoonJi Kim, Daniel Saakes

SpringFab is a project inspired by traditional wire-bending crafts. SpringFab can quickly extrude the aluminum wire in a helical shape and simultaneously adjust the radius of its trajectory to produce the desired shape. Users can generate various shapes of revolution with the device and simple GUI.

This project was carried out in collaboration with two other students as part of a KAIST Digital Fabrication class. In this project, I was responsible for designing the mechanical part and the mathematical analysis required for creating the target shape.
